the Cribs were nothing special to me at all. Neither their fast released material nor their frenetic live performances which had been reported as riotous positively by a number of music magazines around 2005 appealed to me at the slightest. SImply because I did not like the fact that the singer Ryan always ended up cracking his mouth with full of blood at the gigs. Their songs just sounded dull and it seemed that there was only a predictable consequence as another poorly faded indie band. Comparing to other newcomers from 2005 such as Kaiser Chiefs it was obvious that they had a lack of gorgeousness in both its sound and style.
However, my negative way of looking at Cribs has completely changed by watching their simple attitudes as rock musicians and its blow-me-away live performance at Glastonbury 2007. Despite the fact that it was such a gloomy weather as a start of the festival, I still remember how excited I was and as if my body temperature reached the highest point ever. My heart also has beaten faster and faster even though I could not recognise these identical twins called Ryan and Gary, standing in the front stage. Such an intense, concentration, making the most of being siblings wowed lots of panters there. Being watched by people whom more than half of them were supposed male youngsters, Cribs kept on rocking and playing their instruments madly and Ryan did not seem to care even the tone of his voice lost its control sometimes .
They are far from arty bands who dress to impress, speak to controvert and so on. The Cribs are all about their simplicity both in musical and artistic terms and that makes us want to listen to their music repeatedly. There was no remarkable involvement between performers and audiences and these crowd surfing were just something you could imagine to happen in a rock concert. No special stage effects, gorgeous lighting, but people kept on singing along almost every single word of lyrics and raising their fist in the air to show how they were enjoying Cribs' songs and their rock' n roll moments straightforwardly. Their music might not the sort of thing that attracts you immediately after listening for the first time. Even so, this live performance is worth the see for sure. Forget about the change. The Cribs always remain the same, but keep their tunes alive forever and that is why we are attracted to them in the end.
