I still remember how amazing Rufus Weinwright's performance was at this year's Glastonbury festival and since then I started listening to his back-catalogue repeatedly. Not only are his luxurious voices very attractive he also knows how to entertain people. Rufus was born in a family who had a career as a musician and we are convinced that its musical pedigree is also taken over his sisiter Martha Weinright. Thanks to that Rufus seemed to have evolved his artistic talent in a classical methods and it became a real thing. Although he has got a very controversial dress sense at stage, this is some extra fun that amuses us to watch and he is confident enough to admit that he is aware of being an entertainer let alone to be a singer-songwriter.
With considerably a good mood he was in, Rufus talked to the audience about how he felt awkward to their different reactions in a diffirent country during his current European tour between song and song and the audience laughed at his sarcastically funny jokes . Rejoycing this intimate atmosphere, Rufus kept on bringing us his wonderful ballads playing the piano as well as enjoying the dynamic ensemble with his co-band. This show consisted of two separated acts with 10-minute interval like a usual plays or musicals in the theatre and it was quite rare in terms of general concerts. Even so his exceptional performance surely lived up to audiences expectations and its unique and dimensional musical approach were absolutely worth to listening seating for two hours at Hammersmith Apollo.
Some people might admit that he looked as if he was an actor who sang songs with tremendous voices if they have seen him play as Judy Garland at the West End theatre before. He is not only a singer-songwriter any more, he can even dance with high-heel shoes and above all, he is a quintessential performer with such mesmerising vocals and this males us feel like daydreaming just in a moment but never fades away.
I am not saying that real artists should be someone who have got some sort of charisma and live their lives which are completely out of reach for us as we are all human after all. The thing is that I was totally utterly immersed myself in Rufus Weinright's perfect world tonight. His gorgeously astonishing live performance tells us what an art is meant to be in a quite simple way and if you would like to know its answer this is the place you should go.
