Enter Shikari

Brixton Academy

As soon as I came in the venue, I wondered if I was wrongly here to see Klaxons tonight as there were lots of youngsters with shiny glowsticks around their wrist, neck and everywhere. Is Enter Shikari also considered as a nu-rave band? No, their music approaches more of metal and trance rather than techno-electronica infusions, but it does not seem to matter for these fans and they are too busy shouting their name "Shikarrrrrrrrrrrrrri" to care about it anyway. There are two metres sized wolves' dolls in the middle of stage and these match spooky atmosphere of Brixton Academy, though this year's Halloween is gone several days ago. The members of Shikari who turned up about 15 minutes later than expected were all full of smile and kicked off with the 'Intro' sporty and frenetically.

Firstly, their movement is so quick and passionate hence hard to follow to watch without blinking my eyes. These powerful drumming and energetic guitar plays just keep going and so does the singer Rov. His goth-rock influenced death voices even have sensitively beautiful high-tones at the same time. They run, jump, spin and whatever. They don't seem to be tired at all and this riotous performance with tired-free attitude proves they are still on fire and young enough to explode themselves without pausing for a quick deep breathe. This funnily new invented sound (allegedly) can be introduced solely as a mix-tape by kids who made it just to kill time as it is obviously reminiscing their predecessors the likes of Van Halen, Megadeth, Stratovarius and even Linkin Park with fair sense of nu-rave style so that kids who seek something they have never heard before can pay attention to.

Fortunately, this went well and those 'Try Something New' attitudes made their heyday brilliantly. Whereas Enter Shikari is not the sort of the band who has got a strong and definite character and it is not fair to judge them as an excitingly fresh talent with only one debut album. In fact I doubt how many adults really enjoyedwatching them live but those youngsters tonight. The truth is that this is the gig which young people come to have fun for an hour or so to release their stressful daily school life, but no worries parents. Good teacher is always out of the classroom.
