Patrick Wolf

Shepherd's Bush Empire

The reason people go see a concert is different. Some might just want to meet their faves in the air. Others might want to see them play live. Needless to say, for audiences, nothing is better than seeing someone perfect both musically and visually as we pay for what we think good, but the reality is that all the musicians are not perfect and we know they are human like us. Even so I am not happy to pay a penny for anything/anyone I could do on my own or replace as long as I recognise them as professional. They bring us something special we can not imitate so we support them. This is an ideal give-and-take and a wonderful bond. Patrick Wolf is one of very characteristic singer- songwriters today and his theatrical live performance is definitely something you will never forget once you experience.

This 24-year-old art prince never let his royal fans down at his concerts. Uniquely he does not put the set-list on the stage as songs he would play depend on both requests from the crowd and his mood. Well, it is not theatrical but this "Nothing happens as planned conventionally" style is one of great part of his live performances and thanks to it audiences can enjoy his almost improvisational and amazing act. Tonight's show called 'Grand FInale' was divided into two parts---first half was Patrick's solo with piano and viola then second one was with his full band. He croons deeply and it echoes mysteriously as if it was a spell of the voice when he sings alone. This reflects the silent side of Patrick beautifully. On the contrary, He performed very cheerfully and passionately in the second set with the wonderful band's orchestration and was involved with audiences by their singalongs to rejoice this great moments together.

Visually it was also great to see him change his colourful and spangled costumes three times including its ancore. Musically his ethereal performance brought a fantastic combination of pop, electronica and classical music. He showed his appreciation towards his royal fans and anyone who supported him to make records and bring him to the stage to perform. His sense of achievement as an artist could have been fulfilled at this first chapter of his life and may as well need some rest to refuel his wings for a fresh start. Even if he is away for a while this star of the first magnitude will stay with us, shining brilliantly.
